Hi! My Name is Ed and I'm a Cubs Fan.
Cubs Anonymous is an organization dedicated to stopping the pain - the pain experienced from watching, following and cheering for the Chicago Cubs as they exist today.
All cub fans have their unique tales of woe. I started following the Cubs in 1947, as a 10-year-old who really loved baseball. In those days I watched the Cubs and wished they were the Brooklyn Dodgers. Today I still watch them and wish they were the Atlanta Braves. Why? I would like to experience the joy of rooting for a winning team. Fifty years is long enough to wait. I cannot suffer through another frustrating game, season or decade. I want to purge myself of the Cubs syndrome. I want to stop the pain.
I refuse to force myself to stay awake in the wee hours of the morning, watching the Cubs play an extra inning game on the west coast, hoping against hope for a rare win, knowing full well that another frustrating loss is inescapable. Woe is me!
I will no longer look at the box score in the morning newspaper, watching batting averages go down and earn run averages go up. I will not wait for one of my local heroes to appear among the statistical league leaders. Woe is me!
How can this be accomplished? Not a simple task, but it can be done one day at a time by following our 12-step program. Don't wait until next year; join Cubs Anonymous and stop suffering now.
Good day to all fellow Recovering Cubs Fans.
My Name is Mark and I am A Cubs fan.
I am 30 years old and have been going to Cubs games since I was 3. Do the math and you will realize that my first Cubs game was in that ill fated '69 season. I was not wise enough then to realize how that would be a foreshadowing of at least the next 27 years to come at Wrigley Field.
I realize that I have a problem, as my moods tend to have a high correlation with the Cubs team and their success or failures. I have been brought to new emotional highs in 1984 when they made the playoffs for the first time in my life, and brought to new lows within a week as they lost the NLCS on my 18th birthday.
I am in a real dilemma, can I just throw away the past that was once so important to me. How can I toss my personalized autograph poster of "Ryno" or store away my game worn jerseys? What will go in the blank space left by my limited addition remake of Norman Rockwell's "The Bat Boy" More importantly what will go in those empty spaces that I reserved in my heart for those hapless wonders, who have to not only watch as I do, but live the horror of a 162 game season.
Hi! My name is Kevin and I'm a Cubs fan.
To give you an idea of the severity of my illness, I have a 45 record of "Men in Blue", as sung by Rick Sutcliff, Jody Davis and Keith Moreland. I don't even own a turntable anymore!
I regret the day I came of age and discovered that a winning record mattered and there was this thing called the playoffs.
The only thing that used to matter was running around in the backyard being: Randy Hundley, Jose Cardinal, Rick Monday, Ivan Dejesus, Manny Trillo or Bill Madlock.
They weren't ball players they were heroes. I think I became fully addicited when Rick Monday saved the American Flag from burning.
I have learned to accept my affliction and have given up looking for a cure. If 0-14 didn't work, I don't think 12 steps will.
We're so proud of you, Ed C. You really did it! Hope you sign up tons of members. Love & Kisses, Harry & Lois (HarryLois@AOL.com)
Hi! My name is Nina. I have suffered as the wife of a Cub fan for forty-three years. I feel as if the Cubs should be sued for alienation of my husband's affection. Either the radio or the television is turned on to a Cub broadcast no matter where we are in the United States, no matter what the time. I need help! I hope Cubs Anonymous will give my husband's affection back to me. An example of how extreme my case is, is the fact that hubby says he does not need the help. The Cubs need a better team and more wins. I will try wearing the Cubs Anonymous t-shirt in front of my husband whenever he has a game tuned in. Failing that how can I arrange for an intervention to get him back?
Hi, my name is Paul, I am a Cubs fan
I have a sickness that seems uncurable. I used to live in the united States and watch/listen to the Cubs whenever I could. Then I moved over seas, to the US territory of Guam. Since being here, I have tried everthing except stand on my head to follow the Cubs. Well, this year, it seemed I was able to cure this insatiable appetite when the cubs opened their offical web site. This site at the begining of the year offered fans to listen to the game over the internet. I took to this like a fish to water. Guam is a mere 15 hours ahead of Chicago. So that meant getting up in the middle of the night to follow with passion the beloved Cubbies. Well, Major League Baseball decided that maybe it was not a good idea to have games on the internet, so fans all over the world could listen. Well, being a diehard fan, I went to work right away. I wrote the Cubs, WGN, The Tribune company, Bud Selig, even a published letter in the Sporting news and a web page to get the back. But for some reason all my efforts fell on deaf ears. Finally my problesm were solved in June, when the Cubs put WGN back on the Internet. I was so happy. I jumped up and down so much that it felt like a normal earthquake that we have around here. So live was back to normal for me. Getting up in the middle of the night, missing work and racking up the internet bill.
But all of this devotion was nothing new. I am not only able to follow the Cubs on their web site, but also on the Chicago Tribune web site. So I am very up on the Cubs. This thirst for knowledge on how they are doing, I believe is a sickness. I was able to go to my first Cubs game in August in nearly three years. I sat around fans that live in the area, but were clueless as to what was happening. It truely is a sickness to follow the Cubs so dearly and from so far away. Thanks for letting me share this. May the waiting for next year, someday end.
Paul Talofofo, Guam
Hi. My name is Woodstock Warren and I am powerless over the Cubs. They are also powerless, and therein lies the problem I am only now bringing myself to admit openly. I am willingly taking this First Step.
I swallowed my first dose of Cubs a long, long time ago. I was an impressionable youngster of barely 11 when Miss Machek let our sixth-grade class listen to the first game of the 1945 World Series on the radio. The Cubs won 9-0. I was hooked. The Cubs would sweep this Series and would go on, year after year, to World Championship after World Championship. Could it be otherwise?
The Cubs led two games to one moving to Wrigley Field for the final three [end-of-war travel restrictions]. Even when the Cubs blew that Series, I did not see it as a portent. Now that I look back on it, that was the first time I said: "Wait till next year!"
Yes, I was hooked. Third the next year. Sixth the year after that. Then ... the cellar ... for the first time. The Cubs had hit the low that perpetually would be their "new tradition." I had hit a low also, but I would not admit it. There always was that tonic, that elixir, that "Wait till next year!" -- for the true "high" I refused to believe that I never would achieve.
There were brief periods in which I experienced sanity in reality, but then I would relapse.
I was drunk on the Cubs again, totally gone, in 1984. They couldn't lose to the Padres -- not going out to San Diego with a 2-0 lead -- could they? Once more, neither job nor family mattered. It was all Cubs. Posters on the walls. Brand-new Sony Watch Man so I could follow them, wherever I went, to their revenge against Detroit -- the team that had beaten the Cubs to bring me down 39 years earlier. I scorned all overtures of help, even from an understanding sort named Steve Garvey who tried to reason with me by hitting a home run that should not have shocked me, given all those previous years of frustration, but did. And I found myself again muttering in delirium: "Wait till next yer!"
I followed along my wayward path into 1989, and again my addiction brought hope. But the playoffs once more meant despair. This should have been a Giants step toward recovery, but I paid no heed. I was a Cubs fan! Forever! Through thin and thin. Wait till next year ... Wait .....
Then came 1997. A 14-0 start. It was the earliest "next year" had ended. Ever. It was the earliest I had ever realized that I was powerless over this "force" that so many times had picked me up, into a paradise overlooking a field of green, a sea of live and loud grandstands, ivy replete and waving in the fresh breezes of springtime hope -- only to dash me down again, where I could see as I lay in the third-baseline gutter that the field was browning, the sea was stagnant and the ivy was withering in winds that now sounded suspiciously like mocking laughter.
Yes, I was, am and always will be a Cub-alcoholic!
Now I have found Cubs Anonymous. There are people with the same affliction! People with whom I can share my despair and grief and letdowns and pains! I hope that with the help of you and my higher power [no, not the White Sox -- they have their own problems], I can progress steadily toward recovery. Thank you.
I am a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. I share your pain! I wish there was a group like this for us. Bill Postel Valdosta,Ga.
Hello, my name is Jeff and I am a Cubs Fan!
I love the Cubs. I can't help it. I lived in the shadows of Wrigley Field for 5 years. I have spent thousands of dollars on my habit, without reward. I have tried quitting before, but as soon as the first pitch is thrown of a new season, I just KNOW deep down that this is THE YEAR. I guess that is part of the addiction. It doesn't help that for 29 years my father has been filling my head with those thoughts. He is a good man, but I feel that I have no choice but to sue him for child abuse. No court in the land will deny my pain and suffering.
If I join this group, does it mean that I can't watch any more Cubs games? If so then I don't think I can join. I'm not ready yet because they look like they are on the right track for '98.
Dear Ed and Norma, I'm Nina's friend Charlotte Projansky, and I am so pleased to know such a famous person such as you. Hope your group get loads of members. Myself, I'm a Bulls fan and lately have no complaints.
Hi we are a couple of cub fans who really think that the cubs are horrible. My friend has an obsession problem with Harry Caray. He often dresses like Harry and announces the games. He is a fine candidate for cubs anonymous. Thank You.
My name is John W and I have been a Cubs fan since 1960. I still have a scorecard that shows a rookie named Ron Santo playing shortstop, not third base. I'd like to quit -- I don't even live in the Chicago area any more, haven't for years -- but I don't think I can go cold turkey. Could I become a fan of the Athletics first, maybe?
Just stay away from Wrigley Field (Hit the tribune company where hurts!!!!!)
In regards to Staying away from Wrigley.
Is that where the money is made? My guess is that the only way to hurt them financially is if you are a "Nielsen House" and you don't turn the game on as I would have to guess attendance concessions are only a small fraction of their earnings. Can anybody confirm or refute that?

I have, was, a Cubs fan since 1969! I realized after the strike that the Cubs do not care about their fans. I have not taken my kids to a game in 2 years and I don't want them to be a Cubs fans. I will only watch the Cubs win and IF they ever get into the World Series. (HA-HA) THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT ME AND I DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM.
Hello! My name is Jose and I am a Cus fan. I'm 24 years old and I live for the Cubs. I try to watch every game on TV and go to Wrigley at least twice a year. I had the misfortune to start watching the Cubs in the early 80's and just absolutely fell in love with the team. 1984 spoiled me as I was only 11 years old at the time and though that the Cubs would have many more winning moments. What a fool I was. As I got older and began to learn about the history of the Cubs, it was already to late. I was hooked.
I need help. Every spring training I feel hope and think about the possibility of the Cubs finally winning a World Series. I can see my way clearly for now because the Cubs are mathematically eliminated. But next year I feel like I will be at it again. I will watch most of their games, take my two trips to Wrigley and watch the team for a couple of games on the road. Help me!
--Jose in VA
Hey Fast Eddie - You should have done this a long time ago. I've shared the pain with you for as long as I've known you. You'll never deep down forget the Cubbies and how they have been America's team. Anyway I'm proud of you tackling this hopeless cause. A Cub's fan will always be a Cub fan. Win - Loose - or Loose even more.
Love and kisses, Your best friend Gary G.
My name is Liam and I'm an alcoholic. Sorry, wrong testimonial, actually I'm a Cub fan. A die hard one. The fact that they suck pisses me off so much and the only good thing is that the Sox are almost as embarassing. I believe the only way for the Cubbies to win again is if Tribune Co. sells them. My Father works for the Trib and I know that with such a large company, the Cubs mean very little to them. They make money no matter what.
Hi I must admit I'm a cub fan. Ask my son Ryne. This group was made just for me . Until now I thought I was the only one. I remember watching the games with my grandma. She would say "What slump ? They're hitting the ball good . The other team is just catching it." I was just a kid in 69 living in northern Michigan . When our school let us go to the gym to watch the tigers, I asked if I could do extra credit work instead. Please help me! I would very much like to join but I think I will ... Shall we say ... Wait till next year ?
I've been a Cubs fan for all of my 17 years on Earth, and I'm sick and tired of watching them lose.
Hello my fellow friends from Cubs Anonymous, My name is Martin Aquino from Monterrey, Mexico. I lived in Chicago for 18 years and I´ve had the Cubs fever for 24 . When I moved to Mexico , I was among the first to acquire a satelite dish not for the purpose of seeing the Johnny Carson Show, but to see all of the Cubs games during the season, I mean ALL!!! of the games. It became obvious to my wife that I wasn´t a normal person. But in 1984 , it seemed that the investment that I had made in the satelite equipment was going to be an intelligent one, more so than if I had bought stock in Microsoft. The rest is history. Since then I wait for the moment of being with the bleacher bums, having a cold one with a hot dog and listening to Harry in the seventh ininng at a playoff game. You know something, after telling my story , I feel a lot better.
Thank you
I love the Cubs I will keep watching. I just can't help it.
I am actually proud of the people that admit to being Cubs Fans it shows real loyalty. We probably won't be alive to see them ever get to the big game but at least we have guts being fans. I think its the city. I was wondering if you have a support group for the Bears Fans seeing it is that season and I'm seeing a lot of depression. After a bad baseball and football seasons let me offer just a little light at the end of the tunnel.......Winter and with that....Basketball....With basketball comes yep!! DA BULLS!!!!!!!!!!!! At least the city has one good team.
Hi, my name is Rebecca, and I hate to admit it but I am a Cubs fan. I got hooked the summer of '93. A very bad time to start. With the summer of '94, I thought I was on to something, but I should have listened to my Uncle Harvey (who would just groan when all of us kids would ask, "Who's winning the Cub game?") Now at 30 years of age, I refuse to listen to people who tell me that the Cubs won't ever win. I know that I need to get over this, but, for heaven's sake, my motto this year was "You've got to Rigglelieve!" I can't join yet, but it's good to know that you're here because if they go 0-14 again next year...you'll definitely be hearing from me.
I was pain free for almost three years! From 1992-1995, I paid almost NO attention to the Chicago Cubs. Then the team did a horrible thing. In 1995 the Cubs brought in a good looking Manager! No more bellies hanging over the belt - no tobacco chewing stereotypes! A young good-looking man! So who cares if he has the worst winning percentage in baseball - who better to lead the team that has had the worst century? Hey, I'm a Cub fan - I know they will never win anything in my lifetime so why can't I have a handsome man to look at? Is it so wrong? He's a nice enough guy - yeah, maybe he'll win once in awhile. Besides, it easier to look at Riggs than look at the scoreboard. (Looking at the scoreboard during a Cubs game is like looking at a bad traffic accident!) Don't worry! I'll join when they fire Riggleman! And we all know they will!
Barbara - Chicago
Why be a Cubs fan when the very respectible White Sox are just a few miles south
OK, so I'm not a Cubs Fan. But, I am definitely an Ed C & Norma fan, and have become addicted to their yearly visits to Arizona!
Oh Ed, Oh Ed, is it possible to give up the Cubbies and still make the trek to the beautiful place out West? We promise that we will help you stay away from Mesa! We'll help you to be strong!
We love you and wish you well,
Lisa

Hi, my name is Pat O and I'm a Cubs fan. ("Hi Pat!")
Okay, not only do I have the 45 of Men In Blue, but I HAVE MICK KELLEHER'S AUTOGRAPH.
I was living near Peoria at the time - the Peoria Chiefs were a Cub farm team then, and Mick was, maybe still is, a roving infield instructor or some damn thing.
I saw him - my Cubbie Blue blood ran warm in my veins - I went down to the fence and actually asked for his autograph. Kids and adults looking at me like I was crazy - this little middle-aged guy wearing number 95 or something and here I am getting his autograph?
I have a problem.
BYW, does anybody else out there spend Sunday nights playing the 45 of the Super Bowl Shuffle?
LORD, do I have a problem.
Fellow Cubs fans,
I would just like to comment on one of the most pathetic days in baseball history--the day that the Brewers joined the National Leauge Central. I am a Cubs fan from Wisconsin, and find it pathetic that the Brewers have to move to the National League to get their fans to the ballpark.
A cheesehead Cubs fan.
Perhaps we can meet on the beach some nite and discuss the Cubs.
Dear Ed C I'm J.C., and I'm a Cubaholic. My addiction goes back to 1967.
Harry Carey's drunken stupor the day you took me to the game was the joy of my life. Yet Ryan Sandberg's foul ball will be my biggest memory. Nice visiting with you, we shall chat another time.
The only nice thing about the Cubs is the Ivy and the scoreboard. Wm Wrigley never attended the games when he was living and he had good seats!!!
It kinda gives a dedicated Cub Fan a good feeling when some major league franchises have to build new ball parks because their people won't attend without "state of the art facilities"! Nothing like the good ole domed stadium to bring back a lot of memories. But,who's the architect on some of the new one's? Wrigeley Field!!! Let's shoot for the bleachers!! Waveland and Sheffield!
I remember one game back in the 50'5
I remember one game back in the 50's when Hank Sauer broke the second story window on Waveland.. He hit it on a fly! Longest ball I ever saw at Wrigley. He hit another one bounced down Kenmore Ave-- rolled about 100 feet, so I'd say he was the only one to hit a 600 ft. homer out of the park. D.H. Phoenix,AZ
I REMEMBER SAUER IN LEFT,KINER IN RIGHT AND BAUMHOLTZ HAVING A HEART ATTACK IN CENTER HAVING TO COVER THE VACANT GROUND NOT COVERED BY THE OTHER TWO. WILL SOSA AND RODRIGUEZ HIT MORE HOMERS OR STRIKEOUT MORE THAN SAUER-KINER ?. GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How about a Cub "Dream Team"? ONLY IF YOU HAVE SEEN THEM PLAY1 1b-M. Grace- 2b- R. Sanburg ss- E. Banks 3b- R. Santo Lf- B.Williams Cf- R. Monday Rf- S. Sosa Picher- F. Jenkins Catcher- R. Hundley--MUST HAVE MISSED A BUNCH OF OTHERS-But, I think that would be good pennant material!!! Sure beats what we have now. D.H. Phoenix
Hi my name is jim and I am a cub fan. Went to wrigley for the first time in 1955, Ernies first or second year. I was hooked. What a great place! Went to opening day 1969, and quite a few games that year, even down to St. Louis in September. A heartbreaking year to be a Cub Fan. But if their closer, Beck, can have agood year , 1998 could be their year. I still am faithful,
though I am not finished with Wrigleyville, the book, yet. It may change my mind.Peace and love

Hi, My name is Doug, and I am a Cubs fan.
I don't remember my first game, but I do remember Jack Brickhouse turning over the announcing duties to Harry Carry, God rest his soul.
I grew up in Northeast Iowa, and it was there that I listened to the Cubs lose game after game. My only alternative was to listen to the Twins lose game after game. Thank God I chose the Cubs.
My first live Cubs game was a trip to St. Louis where I watched a twinbill on the Fourth Of July weekend. I don't remember much of the game except that Dave Kingman hit what I believe was his ONLY in the park home run in his career.
I was nine years old.
I will miss Harry. His last years were not his best, but even when he was in his prime, he was not afraid to scream at a overpaid ballplayer for missing a grounder or for popping up in a key situation. What Cub player wasn't overpaid or didn't scew up? I was kind of looking forward to a few Steve Stone saves when he looked out and saw Jeff Blauser at short and wondered what the Hell was going on...Does this mean Arnie won't have anyone to whisper dirty things to since Steve is a switch hitter?
I am stuck in Kansas now, and TCI has determined that the Cubs are not reason enough to give me WGN. BUMMER Please keep me up to date wtih the happenings of my Cubbies. I too, have the old 45 of "CUBBIE BLUE," I don't have a turntable, but I won't let it go...unless I get the right offer...

MY NAME IS DANIEL. IVE BEEN A CUBS FAN FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS, NOT VERY LONG BUT THAT'S ALL IT TAKES TO FEEL THE TORTURE OF BEING A CUBS FAN. IM 18 AND STARTED MY OBSESSION WITH THE CUBS DURING THE 89 SEASON WIN THE CUBS WERE IN THE PLAYOFFS WITH THE GIANTS, WHICH OF COURSE YOU ALL KNOW THEY LOST. BUT THE REASON WHY IM WRITING IS TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT IT'S ALL RIGHT TO BE A CUBS FAN EVEN A DIE HARD CUBS FAN. CUBS BASEBALL GOES FAR BEYOND WIN LOSS PERCENTAGE. LAST YEAR I WENT TO 21 CUBS GAMES, AND FOR EVERYONE I WENT TWO HOURS EARLY FOR BATTING PRACTICE JUST TO GET SOME BASEBALLS. I ENDED UP GETTING 26 ON THE YEAR AND MORE IMPORTANTLY] I HAD THE BEST SUMMER OF MY LIFE. I GOT BASEBALLS TOSSED UP TO ME BY PLAYERS LIKE NOMO, JIM LEYLAND, RON GANT, DION SANDERS, MEL ROJAS(I FELT LIKE THROWING IT BACK)JUST TO NAME A FEW. BUT WRIGLEY FIELD IS A PLACE TO HAVE FUN AND MEMORIES THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET. I REMEMBER WHEN ME AND MY DAD WENT TO 70'S NIGHT AT WRIGLEY FIELD AND K.C AND THE SUNSHINE BAND WAS PREFORMING I SEEN A LOOK IN MY DAD'S EYE THAT I NEVER SEEN BEFORE HE WAS LIKE A LITTLE KID IN A CANDY STORE AND I KNOW ITS SOMETHING HE WILL NEVER FORGET. I ALSO REMEMBER WHEN WE GOT 11 BASEBALLS IN ONE DAY DURING BATTING PRACTICE. THAT'S GOT TO BE A RECORD OR SOMETHING, EVERYBODY WAS JUST STARING AT US IN AWE THAT WE WERE WALKING AROUN WITH 11 BASEBALLS IT WAS SUCH A GREAT FEELING FOR ME AND MY DAD. I GUESS WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY IS THAT THERE'S MORE TO THE CUBS THAN JUST WINNING. LIKE MEMORIES. EVERYBODY OUT THERE HAS TONS OF STORIES AND MEMORIES THAT WE LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT THE CUBS. I GUESS AS LONG AS YOUR HAPPY BEING A CUBS FAN THAN WHATS WRONG?
My name is Mike and I am a Cub-a-holic. I was on a 162 game year habit. Sure, it started out slow: a few innings here, a game there. Soon it was entire series, and soon I was strung-out on road trips! I hit rock bottom in September of 1969 at Shea Stadium. A terrible, terrible fate for a Cub fan. I recentley completed the 12 Step Program with Step 12: Off Harry Caray. Now I am clean and have been since October.
Go cubs and lets win one for harry

Hi,
Hi, My name is Ted an I am addicted to the Cubs. I blame my father for sucking me in back in '84 when that son of a b.. steve garvey belted all those homers. What about craig nettles and gary templeton. Those guys were on speed (templeton was actually charged) or something to get those results. Why couldn't the all-Americans Bobby Derneir, Keith Moreland, Jody Davis and company have whooped them. Well, I guess I am crying over spilled milk. Anyway, my family settled in illinois back in the late 1800's and have been Cubs fans ever since then. In a bittersweet manner, the tradition remains the same. Every year there seems like there is hope. We've all heard it before. I'm stuck. I stare at my official Diehard Cubs fan certificate passed down to me by my father and know that I will never change. I currently live in the south and Hear constantly all this chatter about the Braves. I hate the Braves, but everyone seems so pumped and satisfied. how do I get this feeling? Is it at all possible? Could even a march on the tribune company and a boycott to wrigley get anything done. This summer, as a college student, I'll be Harry-less and will probaly find myself listening to Steve Friekin' Stone talk Arnie as if he were his best friend. I' a religious man but if I ever go to hell, Steve Stone will be there broadcasting games and Steve Trachsel will pitch every losing game. I know that I am rambling, but I need help. Anyone out there can E-mail me at tal35290@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu and we can maybe form a therapy group. In the name of Blauser and Morandini I'll say my goodbyes. Sincerely, Ted Austin Long '84
C'mom guys,
I wanted to get some feedback from you all about the cubs first series with the marlins. All cubs fans can email me and we can chat on a rainy day or a rain delay. Any way my E-mail again is tal35290@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu
Hi my name is Jordan and I've been a cubs fan since the day i was born. It's tough, but I've almost broken the addiction by moving to an area where i don't get WGN. I suggest that other Cub Addicts try this method

Jordan,
Hey dude. I am Ted and I am understanding of you. In the last two weeks, you are the only person that has responded to this awesome page. God bless Ed whoever you are! Anyway, I love the cubs and i want you to Keep on writing. We have a half way decent club this year and with a crossed finger and a Harry Carry wish we can do it. Just think, a world championship this year. Can we put it together? I'm only 21 but I feel that we can repeat a 1984/1989 year. What do you think Jordan? E-mail me at tal35290@pegasus.cc,ucf.edu. Let's rock this page. see you later man.

Hi. My name is Matt and I'm a Cubs fan.
I first caught the disease in 1984, when I would hear a local Quad City DJ talk about how good the Cubs were that year. I watched the playoffs, they were looking good! I remember hearing someone say that they hadn't been to the world series since 45', and they hadn't won one since 1908. I was pretty excited being that at that point they were only one win away from history. They lost one, then one more. Then with their backs against the wall in game five, Steve Garvey drove the dagger through my heart, and the hearts of millions of Cub fans across the country and the world. I was very disappointed to say the least. Well, I was already hooked after seeing that. I had to be witness to a Cubs championship no matter how long it took. Well, it's been a while. And it will probably be a while. But, I'm never going to give up on the Cubbies, no matter how bad they are. I love em'.
WE GOT WOOD!!
Yeah, and who knows, maybe Mike Piazza also? I'd love to see the Cubs open up their wallets and get him, at least for the rest of 1998. He'd be perfect for Wrigley, and with a bat like that added to their lineup, how could the Cubs not win the Central this year?
Hi,my name is Ben and I'm a Cubaholic;
I honestly do not remember not loving the Chicago Cubs. I hunted easter eggs with the Cubs emblem on them. When I was a kid the idea that the Cubs were not winners never crossed my mind. I discarded unimportant baseball cards like rookie Ricky Henderson in favor of greats such as Mike Vail. Now I am 26 years old and am well aware of what I'm in for, but I can't shake the Cub disease. Getting Kerry Wood only makes it worse. I admit that I have a problem, but I cannot forsee ignoring my lifelong love.
I am a 17 year old female,so I'm extremely moody anyway, but when I watch the Cubs lose I become absolutely unbearable!! My parents are sick of it, but I'm addicted!! HELP ME PLEASE!!!
The CUbbies have a great chance this year! Lets see if Lynch will actually give up some youth for production. jim
Hi. My name is Matt, And I'm a Cubs Fan.
This diesese started with my first Cubs game at Wrigley. They played the Expos. "Rainbow" Trout vs Bryn Smith in 1984. The Cubs won, and I've been following them ever since.
I am a true Cub-a-holic. I belive Steve Garvey is satan, and there are times when I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat muttering to myself "Garvey, Garvey". I belive Larry Himes is one of his evil minions to let Greg Maddux go. I belive Mel Rojas was Ed Lynch's idea of a joke. I belive Babe Ruth never called his shot, for if he did, St. Charlie Root would have beaned him. So in the name of Brant Brown in center, Sammy in right, and Oh Henry in left, please trade for Randy Johnson, and some other good pitching, for I would like to see a World Championship before satans other evil minion, Bud Selig, ruins the sport of baseball for eternity.
I think Randy would look good in Cub pinstripes.
I have been a Cubs fan for most of my life. It has been a painful existence. Although the memories of Santo, Kessinger, Beckert and Banks carry me through the years with wishful and hopeful thinking. I am so glad there are other people who feel the same as I do. FSP
I am Cubette. I am a die hard Cubs fan. And and very proud to say so. I perfer it when they win, but if they don't, I still love them. My favorite Cubs are Grace, Sosa, Morandini, and Servais. Of course, I REALLY love Kerry Wood. A Cubs fan till my dying day!
Hi, I will call myself Dennis S. .......a long suffering Cubs fan.
I write this letter with my 1969 Jewel foods coffee cup on my desk. Ernie, Ron, Nate, Paul, Glenn and Don are the names adorned on the side of this cup. Fond memories have I watching the poetry in motion back in those days.
My daddy didn't see the Cubs win a series, I haven't seen the Cubs win a series, I only hope my son see's the Cubs win a series, but alas he won't either as he is already 5 years old....and the white male lifespan is only 72 years....his time is running out.

Hi! My name is Bob and I'm a Cubs Fan:
Mr. Cohen is the purest fan there is, he is honest, loyal, and can't shake the addiction. I feel the same as Mr. Cohen and that's why I'm making a documentary film on Cub fans. Look for it next Spring. Also, call me if you are a very serious fan and have some good stories to share. My number is 773-343-0119.
Thanks Cub Fans:

hi everyone, my nam is "rick" and i am a cubs addict.
i started in 1984 and haven't stopped since. in the worse times, i would cry when the cubs lost. my mom would come home and pray that they hadn't. she didn't know how to deal with me when i was like that. the cubs were the answer to all my problems. i used to arrive home from school at around four p.m. and i'd go straight to the cubbies. i always hoped lee smith would be on the mound because that usually meant the cubs were winning. since i got home at four, the one-twenty games were just about over.
this year, my need for the cubs to fix my life became so strong that i had to cut them out of my life. cold turkey. it has been about three months and the crises in my life have quieted. so, i have turned back onto the cubs. i, however, do not listen to three hours a day, nor check every detail of the box score each morning. i can, however, listen for a half hour every once in a while.
hopefully, this return to the cubs isn't just part of my addiction. the cubs can be cunning, baffling, and powerful. i sometimes say that i'll just find out the score, and before i know it, i will have laid on the couch for three hours and not know what happened. i understand the pain. but it is not about the cubs losing every year, it is about me. anyways. go cubs!

Dear world,
My name is Robert and I too am a Cubs fan. This Saturday I will be making my way from LA to the promise land for the first time in my 30 years-Wrigley Field. And as if that were not enough it is also Harry Carey day.
My name is Tony and I am a Cubs fan.
So much of a Cubs fan that I am part of the Boycott Tribune Co. for their abuse of Cubs fans world-wide by not getting the Cubs pitching help like Randy Johnson and catching help like Mike Piazza
Both of those players were traded to NL clubs for minor league prospects and if the Tribune (who owns the Cubs) were seriously interested in getting the Cubs into the World Series (and thus ending funny pages like this) they would have aquired these All-Stars instead of allowing the Cubs to wallow in their unending and loveable mediocracy.
I say it's time for us to stop being victims to these huge corporations and the best way to get the Trib interested in their Cubs, is to write and email the Trib, WGN, the Cubs and their sponsors like Walgreens, Procter & Gamble, Budweiser, Excite and American Online. When companies see that they might lose money, they get interested.
any questions email me at heytony@hotmail.com
all i want is a World Series win before I die, I dont think thats asking too much but Harry never got it, Brickhouse never got it and I dont wanna see Ernie B. and Billy Williams give so much to the Cubs and suffer just because the Tribune wasn't interested in one of their many many "investments".
The Cubs are not just an investment, they're Our team and we love them.
Boycott the Tribune!

Hi my name is Jason and I'm a cubs fan,
I love the cubs. They are doing awsome this year and I hope Sammy breaks the home run record. That would be great to see.I think the cubs will win the world series this year because Harry Carry is watching over them and is going to help them along the way.
I am so addicted to the Cubs, for 8 years I have been writing newsletter/chronicle called the Bleacher Banter. It is an outlet for Cub fans' frustrations and is mailed worldwide. A sample edition is available for $2 c/o Stephanie, Bleacher Banter, P.O. Box 64-2401, Chicago, IL 60664-2401. YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND NEITHER AM I!!!!!

national league most valuable player.
I have been a cubfan all 15 yrs of my life. I have seen them through thick and thin. But from what I can remember, mostly thick. I get my hopes up every year only to get let down again and again. And then Harry died. Harry was my hero. When he died I lost all hope in the cubs untill I started watching them play again and they lost their opener. Then they started to win little by little. I think we can say we got Harry in the Outfield, otherwise we would never be this far. I hope they can just win the wildcard. I got my hopes up but Im getting ready for yet another let down. If they dont I will be crushed again and will probaly say ill never watch them again, but thats just a lie. I will allways watch the cubs, even if they allways let me down. If you are a fellow cubfan then never give up on them. I know im young and maybe havent suffered as much as you, but I truly am a cubfan and will stick with them no matter what!
they should pitch kerry woods more and have sammey hit clean up not thrid
Hello my name is Brandon, and I like many of you have suffered through many very disappointing Cubs seasons, even though I am only 17 yrs. old. However I,as a Cubs fan,am delighted at the job that Jim Riggleman, and the players have done this year.I am praying daily to the man upstairs that the Cubs make the playoffs. Even if they don't make the postseason I must say kudos to Riggs and every player on the team. And especially kudos to us fans who have stuck with them and beared with the horrible seasons throughout the years.

I think the cubs are the best team alive and I know that they will make the playoffs and they will win.
I think the cubs are the best team alive and I know that they will make the playoffs and they will win.
The Cubbies have been my team for as long as I can remember. Even in the city of Cincinnati I would watch the Cubs as often as possible, falling in love with the calls of the late great Harry Caray. I grew up with the likes of Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson, and Shawon Dunston teaching me the ins & outs of the great game of baseball. I distinctly remember being an ecstatic little nine year-old and the end of the '89 regular season, only to be heart broken when we fell to the hated Giants. Since then I have had to endure all the jokes and all the ragging that goes with being a die-hard Cubs fan. I have had to defend my team to all extents, but thus far have little to show for my affections. As a result of the multitude of offseason moves, and later the emergence of Kerry, I have been running around happily since February, spouting to everyone about how this is really, really THE year. Now, coming down to do or die time I have been focusing all my attentions to my Cubbies' race for the Series, of course at the expense of my friends' amusement. At times, my studies here at Ithaca College have taken a back seat to the tribulations of my beloved team. I have turned the message board on the door of my room into a running Sosa-Meter. The inexcusable lack of Sosa coverage, in relation to McGwire, has led to many fits as well as heated arguments between me and my roommate from St. Louis. These playoffs promise to be the most exciting in a while, with our Cubbies right in the thick of it. If Kerry can overcome his elbow ailment, and Gary Gaetti continues to rip opposing pitchers, I see no reason why this can't be the YEAR OF THE CUB.
samy is the best.
Help save the poor bastard who's lucky enough to catch Sammy's H.R. ball on Waveland ave. this weekend from getting beat up.
There will be bullies on the street once again at Wrigley and will probably "bite", kick & scratch to steal the H.R. ball from the person who catches it.
I'm not advocating doing this BUT, what if "30" baseballs came flying over the fence on waveland at the same time? No one will know which baseball is the real one, so if you catch it, put it in your pocket-and go home.
The bully is unlikely to try and steal 30 balls from thirty different people. He will be in a state of confusion!!!
Old little league balls will do, as well as rubber ball (high-lite) the seams with a red sharpie so they look real.
Good Luck...
Has it been magical? Yes. 1998 was a wild baseball year. From Harry's passing to Kerry's coming to Sammy's June to Sammy's 62 to the BREAKDOWN. That is exactly what it will be. The Cubs will break my heart again, and proceed to give my ulcers ulcers. I was there on the Saturday and Sunday against Milwaukee when the Cubs played the two most amazing games ever. I was there when the Reds whipped their asses. CUBS LOSE, METS TAKE LEAD. My Friends, I'm only 21 years old, but, sadly enough, I think we all know how this story ends. I don't ever want to watch the Cubs again. If they couldn't do it this year, then even Harry couldn't convince GOD to help the Cubs out. (Or more likely, EVEN GOD COULDN"T HELP THE CUBS.)
My Dad is 86 years old. He gave me the "Cub Disease." We hope that we can be given the antidote of a championship before we die. John Young-Powell, St. Louis, MO
Great to see your site. I grew up only a few blocks from Wriggly field, and at the age of 12 began pitching a rubber baseball at a brick wall, thinking that someday, I would be a Chicago Cub. I dreamed of it daily while in school. I dreamed of it when I went to bed. I lived it, going out faithfully all summer long and every day after school until it was to cold to pitch in the heavy winter coat I wore. Thanks to fate and a health problem that next year, I gave up my dream, only to spend the summer in front of the TV digesting the cubs every move, every stat, every detail of the game. So they lost that year. There was next year.
The three most dissapointing expieriences in being a cub fan was the 1969 August slump, watching apposing teams pile up runs each inning after inning, especially on those dreary clowdy days at Wriggly. I would watch the game, or stay in the grandstands to the last pitch, and the last out, believing in miricles and last minute 7 run rallies (it happenned once, I think). Then, there was the 84 searies in San Diago, when that ground ball hopped by Ryne Sandberg to start the first rally by San diago. And last, was today (sob, sob) when I saw that drop fly ball that turned a two run lead into a loss! (the most recent bomb is always the worst......
Now, do I sout like a cub fan, or what... John Hermanson jackh@net-link.net

HI, MY NAME IS BLOOMINGDALE(IL)JOE A.,,, ALAS, I AM POWERLESS OVER CUBBIES AND MY LIFE HAS BEEN POWERLESS SINCE 1955(WOE IS ME- I USED TO BE A CLEVELAND INDIANS FAN BECAUSE OF BOBBY AVILA, REY NARLESKI, BOB LEMON, MIKE GARCIA,,,ETAL,,,THEN ONE OF MY FRIENDS SAID, "HERE, TRY A CUB GAME AT WRIGLY FIELD. WELL, NOT WANTING TO HURT MY FRIEND I HAD MY FIRST WRIGLY FIELD GAME. I SWALLOWED IT ALL....DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT RIGHT AWAY...THEN AS THE WHOLE SCENE ENVELOPED ME, THE BRIGHT BLUE SKY, THE BALL PLAYERS ALMOST WITHIN REACH, THE REDDISH MOIST INFIELD, THE BIG BLACK SCOREBOARD, THE BLEACHERS AND THE BLEACHER BUMS(WERE THEY NUDE?), AND THEN THEN IF THIS WASNT ENOUGH, THE GREEN IVY WALL!!!! MY MOUTH STARTED TO FEEL TINGLY, MY CHEST EXPANDED, I SEEMED TO GROW TO 10 FEET HIGH, MY STOMACH FELT WARM AND FUZZY AND MY LEGS TREMBLED. THE EFFECT PRODUCED BY THIS INTAKE, GAVE ME A SENSE OF GREAT EASE AND COMFORT AS I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE....I HAD BEEN AT BALL GAMES BEFORE(THE WHITE SOX AGAINST THE INDIANS), BUT THEY WERE LIKE A TEPID GLASS OF WATER COMPARED TO WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. I TOOK IN IMMENSE AMOUNTS OF THIS SCENERY FOR THE REST OF THAT DAY.....I HAD A FANTASTIC TIME....BUT I SEEM TO HAVE LOST MY MEMORY OF THE FINAL INNINGS,,,I DONT REMEMBER WHO THEY WERE PLAYING AND WHO WON THE GAME...MY FRIEND GOT ME HOME SOMEHOW, I JUST DONT REMEMBER HOW WE GOT HOME.
THE VERY NEXT DAY I CALLED MY FRIEND AND ASKED IF WE WERE GOING BACK AGAIN TODAY! HE SAID NO, NOT FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS, "THAT WAS ENOUGH TO LAST ME FOR A FEW WEEKS"--I COULDNT BELEIVE WHAT I HEARD. I DIDNT THINK I COULD POSSSIBLY WAIT THAT LONG BEFORE I SAW ANOTHER CUB GAME. I VAGUELY REMEMBER HOPPING ON THE DOUGLAS PARK "L" AND SOMEHOW TRANSFERING TO THE NORTH-SOUTH LINE AND GETTING OFF AT ADDISON RD...I STOPPED AT WHAT IS NOW "MURPHY'S" AND BOUGHT A COUPLE OF HOT DOGS, LOADED THEM WITH THE "WORKS" AND TOOK THEM INTO THE BALLPARK.....THIS TIME I WENT TO THE LEFT/CENTERFIELD BLEACHERS AND THE EFFECT OF THE PREVIOUS DAY RETURNED IMMIDIATELY...I WAS HOOKED.....I HAD BECOME ONE OF "THEM".....I DENYED IT TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDED OF CHICAGO FOR A LONG TIME....BUT THEY KNEW...THEY WOULD GO TO WRIGLY WITH ME ONCE IN A WHILE...BUT SOMEHOW I KNEW IT DIDNT EFFECT THEM THE SAME WAY...THEY DIDNT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. THEY DIDNT KNOW THE SCORE, DIDNT KNOW WHAT INNING IT WAS....THEY DIDNT LIKE GETTING THERE EARLY AND BEING THE LAST ONES OUT OF THE BALLPARK LIKE I DID. SOON I STARTED HANGING OUT WITH OTHERS LIKE ME AND OUR LIVES IN THE BLEACHERS BECAME A NORMAL WAY OF LIVING.....I BECAME AN OUTCAST IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THEY WHISPERED BEHIND MY BACK....SOME OF THEM TOLD ME TO GET HELP.....WELL, ITS NOW 1999(FEB) AND I HAVE CUB WITHDRAWLS REAL BAD. I JUST HEARD ON THE RADIO TODAY THAT SPRING TRAINING STARTS IN 2 WEEKS. IT WAS THE "SHOT" I NEEDED. THE TINGLING IN MY ARMS IS RETURNING, MY CHEST IS FEELING LIKE IT MAY START EXPANDING, MY MOUTH FEELS MOIST AND I CAN ALREADY TASTE THE SMELL OF THAT REDDISH WET INFIELD DIRT, THE BLUE SKY ABOVE AND OFCOURSE THAT BEAUTIFUL IVIED WALL....AS EARNIE USED TO SAY AND STILL DOES....LETS PLAY 2!!!
Hi, My name is Scott and I am definately a Cub fan!
I have been a Cub fan for more than thirty years, so like all of the others I know suffering. I wanted to share this story with all of the other fans out there. When I was eight years old in 1969 my friend and I would rush home from the park after playing baseball to hear Jack Brickhouse tell us how the Cubs would win even if they were down ten runs. Well we all know what happened in '69. During that summer my friend made a wood plaque. It says,"Cubs Win The World Series 19___!" Guess that's now a collector's item. So sad! Well I guess anyone can have a bad century!. The Cubs will shine in '99, right Ernie!
The Cubs haven't been the same without Miguel Dilone and Kong. Cub Power!

I'm a 17 year old cub fan from Kentucky. I look forward to every season blindly thinking that we have a shot. I always figure some free-agent or rookie will make a difference. This year I have my eyes set on Shane Andrews and Corey Patterson. I know they won't help us that much, but I forget and get caught up in excitement from the start of a new season. If you can make them get someone good. The contend and rebuild thing hasn't worked and will never work. Thanks Aaron Harper Gilbertsville, KY
i love mark grace. he is hot. and tyler houston was hot, but he sucked. so now he's gone, and so will grace. let's get some more hotties on the team!
Lets get some good pitching....spend some money like they did in Florida.
03 August 1999 hey Ed, attempted to JOIN and got a decline..is your WEBB for this activity up and running? Tks.(070) Sellon sellonrichardi@jdcorp.deere.com
Things seem to be finally looking up after the dreadful 60% of the season in the books..NO,no wins but good personnell moves. Hernandez and Mulholland to Atlanta for two top prospect pitchers..I think this team is finally going to head in the right direction. Until then, lets pray.
The Cubs haven't been the same without him. The greatest player they ever had...
I have been, and ALWAYS will be a DIE-HARD CUBS Fan. I mean I bleed Cubbie blue but our pitching staff has been down right embarassing. I mean how can all of them be pitching great then with a flip of the switch all of them be so bad? Makes you wonder if its not the coach...Well we are only 7 games back and we still have half the season...We can still make the play-offs!!!!!!!!!! GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am a cubs fan. i admit that but i will not give up being a cubs fan. i get funny looks and sometimes get made fun of for my addiction but i am a cubs fan i cant quit. i have turned up big stereos at full volume to here cubs games that would barely come in. i will not quit following the cubs. i will not quit cheering for them. i will not quit saying wait till next year. i will not quit anticipating a killer cubs season. i cannot give up on the cubs i could not face such withdrawal.
hopefully the closer's role has been filled with Aguilera. Beck made us antsy last year but managed to get the job done. Perhaps his injury is more severe than is being let onto. I live in the heart of Braves country ( 160 miles out of Atlanta ) and I would love nothing better than to win 5 out of 7 againt this good team, even though they are showing signs of fading to the Mets no less. And I loathe the Mets. LET'S GET SOME RUNS!
I've been a cubs fan for 20 years and I think that if the cubs can hold down the braves like the way they've been doing, we might have a chance to go all the way.
One word "1984" still hurts to hear that year..that year will hurt for a long time.
MARK GRACE IS HOT!!
I LOVE MARK GRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE IS SOOOOOOOOO HOT!!!!! H-O-T-T HOTT!!!!!!!!
i'm happy that the cubs have impruved since there bad times and that they are doing much better but i am upset because they did not go out in the off season and sign some big name players to make up for there areas in which they need improvement

I am a 16 year old teenager and I am a cubs fan. I recieve alot of crap about the cubs because I leave in a town where half are cubs fans half are cardinal fans and I get tired of hearing about how the cubs haven't won a World Series in 89 years and I want it to stop. I feel the cubs should increase their payroll get a better pitching staff and get some hitters to back up Sammy & Mark. I am not saying we should be like the Florida Marlins from 2 years ago and rent a team. We should just strive to bring in some new talent and be able to keep them around and build on it so that maybe some day in my life I will experiance the Joy of the Cubs winning the World Series.
